In this case the “mobile broadband” connection is not shown by the network manager, and you won’t be able to connect using it. Instead, select “PC Suite mode” from the phone menu after connecting it to the computer. The output of “lsusb” should show something like this:

Bus 002 Device 007: ID 0421:00ab Nokia Mobile Phones XXX (PC Suite mode)

which shows that the mobile is connected using PC Suite mode. Then you should be able to see the “mobile broadband” section in the network manager dropdown applet. Just configure according to your country and operator, and enjoy!

P.S: You will see your mobile’s model number in place of the XXX in the dmesg and lsusb output.

• Downloaded BRITE and built it:

 $: hg clone http://code.nsnam.org/jpelkey3/BRITE
 $: cd BRITE
 $: make

• Then CDed to my patched NS-3 source, and configured and build it with BRITE support:

$: ./waf configure --with-brite=/path/to/brite/source
$: ./waf

• Then I copied the BRITE example provided with the patch to the scratch directory and ran it:

 $: ./waf --run 'scratch/brite-generic-example --verbose=1'

All of these instructions are copied from the wiki page of the BRITE integration project, in case the wiki page goes missing. If you want the patch, here it is taken using hg diff from my ./ns-allinone-3.12.1/ns-3.12.1 directory. Sorry for the pdf file instead of normal text diff file. WordPress for some weird reason doesn’t allow uploading txt file as an attachment.

Then I ran the script again (I removed the checking out parts, because the necessary things are already pulled out). Now it was complaining about the pthread library. I did the same thing for these libraries as well:

/lib$ sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libpthread* .

Then the whole config and building process went well.

• set the networking to “host only adapter” (which is normally called vboxnet0). You should also be able to see vboxnet0 adapter in your host machine. This is used to create this virtual network that we are going to use for communicating among the machines.
• The DHCP server should by default be on for this interface, meaning that you don’t have to manually assign IP addresses to them. But if you want a static IP on each of your machines, please disable DHCP and assign static IP address to eth0. For static addresses, use the following lines in your /etc/network/interfaces file (modify as needed, replace x as you wish):

netmask 255.255.255.0
network 192.168.x.0
broadcast 192.168.21.255
gateway 192.168.x.1 (make this address your host machines vboxnet0 address, configurable from the virtualbox gui)

• Now start your first machine with host only adapter. After starting up, and checking with ifconfig that your eth0 interface has got some IP address, which is in the same subnet with the host machines vboxnet0 interface, you can try to ping the host from the guest. This should work without any problem.
• Now, go to the file /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and you should find one line of configuration there (except for the comments). Delete that line. This line actually binds the interface MAC address with the actual interface. When we are going to clone the harddisk of this VM for making multiple VMs this MAC binding would be invalid (as the new machines will have different MAC address). It is safe to delete this line, as it will be generated again during bootup.
• Now shut down the machine: sudo shutdown -h now
• Create as many copies of the harddisk as needed: vboxmanage clonevdi debian.vdi debian2.vdi repeat this command as many times as you want for new vdi files.
• Then create new VMs using these newly created vdi files. And set networking mode to “host only” for each of the machines. Now, when you start up the machines they should bind their own MAC address with the eth0 interface.
• This should be enough to communicate among all the VMs and the host machine. However, none of the VMs have Internet connectivity, as they don’t have a default gateway to forward the packets. I have added default gw to the host machine’s virtual interface, but no success. I will update if I can find a solution.

• প্রথমে scim-dev ইন্সটল করতে হবে (এটা জরুরী কিনা জানি না, পরে আমাকে আবার শুধু scim ও ইন্সটল করতে হয়েছিল)
• তারপর গুগল কোড থেকে সোর্স ডাউনলোড করে নিতে হবেঃ svn checkout http://scim-avro.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ scim-avro-read-only
• ওপরের কমান্ড কাজ করতে হলে অবশ্যি svn (subversion) ইন্সটল করা থাকতে হবে।
• তারপর যেখানে সোর্স ডাউনলোড করলেন সেখানে গিয়ে নিচের কমান্ডগুলো একে একে দিতে হবেঃ

• এখন আপনার অভ্র প্রস্তুত, পরবর্তি কাজ হল scim চালানো। কমান্ড প্রম্পটে গিয়ে লিখুনঃ im-switch -c এটা আপনাকে কিছু চয়েস দিবে, যেখান থেকে scim বেছে নিতে হবে। যদি এই সময় আপনি scim নামে কোন চয়েস না পান, তাইলে system->administration->synaptic এ যান, গিয়ে scim দিয়ে খোজ দিন, এবং ইন্সটল করুন। তারপর আবার চেষ্টা করুন। এবার আশা করি scim ইনপুট মেথড পাবেন। ওটা সিলেক্ট করে লগ আউট করে আবার লগ ইন করুন।
• এখন আপনি একটা কীবোর্ডের ছবি দেখতে পাবার কথা আপনার টাস্ক বারে। ওটার উপরে ক্লিক করে সেটিংসে গিয়ে ঠিক করে দিয়ে পারবেন কোন বোতাম চাপলে ভাষা বদলাবে। আমি যেমন F12 ব্যবহার করি।
• ব্যস, শেষ। এখন খালি F12 চাপুন, আর দেখুন আপনার টাইপিং ভাষা বদলায় কিনা
• মনের আনন্দে বাংলায় লিখুন।

After the command is executed on source_file.pdf, then there will be a new file named embedded_file.pdf, and also the pdf title will be changed to embedded_file. You can verify the font embedding using pdffonts. Just issue the command:

pdffonts embedded_file.pdf

and it will show which fonts are used in the file and which are embedded.

I was very frustrated, and silently cursing ubuntu for not having a program similar to MS Visio, which I loved when I worked in Windows. Then suddenly I though of changing my tex compiler, and hit jackpot. I changed from pdflatex to latex+dvipdf and it worked right away. The eps file generated by Dia worked without any problem with this combination.

from my ns-3-dev directory, I tried to merge it, but got some weired error called “hg abort: multiple heads”. This error requires that you merge with a specific head revision. Use the command

hg heads

to get the information about all the heads in there. And then you can get the revision number for a particular head in the changeset title:

changeset:   6862:4466edc1f3d5

and the revision is the number before colon (:). So just use

hg merge -r revision_number

to merge the intended head to your codebase. But after that I received the error message that I have outstanding uncommitted merge. Then I remember I didn’t commit the previous pyviz merge I did. So issue the command

hg commit -m “merge pyviz”

which then showed error that I dont have username: hg abort: no username supplied. This requires that I have a file named .hgrc in my home directory with the following content:

And then issue the commit command again. It should pass now and commit any outstanding merges. Then issue the merge command again to merge the new pulled LTE branch. Then commit this new merge again with similar commit command. Then run waf to compile the new LTE codes.
